Appearance
The server's name, mark and accent, its themes, and where interface sounds play.
Written for highsea 0.1.0.
Settings › Appearance sets how the server presents itself to everyone who connects: its name, mark and accent, the theme the apps start in, and where interface sounds play. The Owner and Admins can change it.
Most of what's here is a default for highsea's apps, which each person can change on their own device. The admin itself keeps highsea's own look; it shows the server's name in the sidebar, on the sign-in page and on invite links.
The identity, the default theme and the sounds save together with Save, and every app picks them up the next time it checks in. Custom themes save on their own.
Server identity
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Name | The server's name, up to 40 characters. Shown in the sidebar, on the sign-in page ("Sign in to" and the name) and to people following an invite ("Welcome to" and the name). It can't be empty. |
| Mark | A square SVG or PNG, at least 256 px and at most 1 MB, that apps show beside the name. Use the highsea mark goes back to highsea's own. |
| Use a brand accent | One accent colour for every theme. Off, each theme keeps its own. |
In the apps shows the name and mark as the apps' server switcher will show them.
When you pick an accent, highsea checks its contrast. Passes contrast means it's used as it is; Adjusted for contrast means highsea adjusts its shades so text on it stays readable. Not a color means the value isn't one highsea can read: use a hex value such as #8fbfb7.
Themes
The apps start in the default theme, and anyone can pick another on their own device. Choose the default from the cards: each shows the theme's colours and whether it's Built in or Custom.
There are three built-in themes:
| Theme | What it is |
|---|---|
| Abyss Neutral | highsea's own dark theme, and the default. |
| OLED black | True black backgrounds, for OLED screens. |
| High contrast | Stronger text and borders, and wider focus rings. |
Make your own theme
- Under Themes, choose New theme.
- Give it a Name, and choose the built-in theme it's Based on.
- Pick an Accent. highsea makes the rest of the accent's shades from it, each readable against the background.
- Optionally change Quiet text, the colour of captions and timestamps. Reset puts it back.
- Check Contrast. Each pairing that's too faint is listed, with Fix where a lighter or darker shade solves it. A theme that fails can't be saved: someone would struggle to read it.
- Choose Add theme.
The preview beside the editor shows posters, a title and buttons in the theme as you change it.
Each custom theme has Edit, Copy share code and delete. A share code is a short line of text that anyone can paste into Load a share code in their own editor to get the same theme. Deleting the default theme makes Abyss Neutral the default again.
Sounds
Where the apps play their interface sounds until someone changes it on their device. Sounds never play over a film.
| Setting | Default |
|---|---|
| TVs | On: sound confirms each press of the remote. |
| Phones and tablets | Off: phones have haptics. |
| Web and desktop | Off. |
| Volume | 80% |
| Sound pack | Felt and wood. More packs come with the catalog. |
Listen has a button for each sound (Move, Select, Back, Done, Error, Notice, Arrival). Each plays at the chosen volume, even where sounds are off.
Your own dashboard
Each person arranges their own dashboard in the admin with Customize, and the Owner sets the layout Admins start from. Dashboard explains how.
