General

The server's language and time zone, where film details come from, the indexer catalog, updates and diagnostics.

Written for highsea 0.1.0.

Settings › General holds the settings that shape the whole server: its language and time, where film details come from, the indexer catalog, updates and diagnostics.

Only the Owner can change these settings. Admins can open the page and read them, and see a line saying so. The indexer catalog's settings are the Owner's alone, to read as well as to change.

Changes to Region, Metadata, Updates and Diagnostics wait in a bar at the bottom of the page until you choose Save or Discard. The indexer catalog's settings save as soon as you change them.

Region

The server's own language and time.

SettingWhat it doesDefault
LanguageThe language of the server's own messages: notifications and the calendar feed. English is the only one for now; more come with translations.English
Time zoneUsed for schedules, such as when backups run.The time zone of the machine or container highsea runs in, or UTC when it has none

In Docker, the container's time zone usually comes from the TZ variable in your compose file. Setting Time zone here is the simpler way to correct it.

Metadata

Where film details come from, and the language and region they're in. highsea gets titles, posters, cast and release dates from TMDB, which needs a key of your own.

The TMDB key

The key shows as Set, with its last four characters, or Not set. Without a key, Discover, adding films and refreshing their details stop working; the library and its pages keep working.

To add or change it:

  1. Copy your key from TMDB's API settings. Either the API Key or the API Read Access Token works.
  2. With no key set, paste it into New TMDB key. With one set, choose Replace first.
  3. Choose Save. highsea checks the key with TMDB before it keeps it. If TMDB refuses it, copy it again; if TMDB can't be reached, nothing is saved, so check the server's internet connection and try again.

Remove takes the key away after you confirm.

Language and region

SettingWhat it doesDefault
Metadata languageThe language of titles, overviews and taglines, where TMDB has them in it.Your browser's language when you ran setup
RegionUsed for certifications, release dates and Discover's lists.Your browser's region when you ran setup

Indexer catalog

Where indexer definitions come from, and how new versions arrive. The catalog is the list of public indexers you can add in one click on Indexers. Every version is signed, and highsea checks the signature before it uses one.

SettingWhat it doesDefault
ChannelStable or Beta. Beta gets new and changed definitions first.Stable
Install new versions automaticallyOff, a new version waits on Indexers until you install it.On
Extra catalogsCatalogs someone else publishes and signs, used beside highsea's own.None

To add an extra catalog, open Add a catalog and fill in all three fields the publisher gives you:

  • Manifest address: an https:// address that publishes a signed catalog manifest.
  • Key ID: the ID of the publisher's signing key, as they publish it.
  • Public key: the publisher's ed25519 public key, in base64.

Only add catalogs from people you trust. Removing one takes its definitions with it, and indexers that use them stop working until you add it again.

Updates

highsea tells you when a new version is out. It never updates itself.

SettingWhat it doesDefault
Update channelStable or Beta. Beta hears about new versions first; stable versions show on both.Stable

To update, pull the new image and recreate the container. highsea backs up its database before it changes it. Upgrading has the steps, and choosing how you follow releases explains the channels and image tags.

Diagnostics

What the server writes down when something goes wrong.

SettingWhat it doesDefault
Log levelHow much goes into the logs: Debug, Info, Warnings and errors or Errors. The change takes effect at once, without a restart.Info, unless the HIGHSEA_LOG_LEVEL variable sets another
Write crash reportsWrites a report to the config folder when the server crashes, for you to attach to an issue. Nothing is sent anywhere. The reports are listed in System, under Logs.Off
Metrics for PrometheusServes the server's requests, downloads, indexers and resources at /metrics.Off

Debug is chatty. Turn it on while you chase a problem, then set it back to Info.

Prometheus

With metrics on, the page shows the address to scrape: your public address, or the server's address on your network, followed by /metrics. Prometheus signs in with an API key held by the Owner or an Admin, sent as a bearer token. A read-only key is enough; make one in Settings › Users and devices. See Users and security.

scrape_configs:
  - job_name: highsea
    scheme: http
    static_configs:
      - targets: ['192.168.1.20:3000']
    authorization:
      type: Bearer
      credentials: your-api-key

Replace the address and the key with yours. System has the logs and the server's health.
